Packed with specialized equipment like suspended swings, climbing structures, crash pads, and a vibracoustic ball pit, every element is chosen to provide essential sensory input—including vestibular (movement/balance) and proprioceptive (body awareness) stimulation. Whether seeking a safe space to regulate emotions, enhance motor skills, build confidence, or simply have a blast, our gym fosters a joyful, supportive, and non-judgmental atmosphere for every member of our community. Experts in the Field
The Barnyard Sensory Gym, operated by Strengthening Our System, Inc (SOS) - sosforlife.com, is a private, for-profit human services agency based in Floyd, Virginia. The mission is to promote independence, increased daily living skills, and an improved quality of life for children and adults with Intellectual, Developmental Disabilities, and/or Mental Health issues. Achievement by providing various person-centered home and community-based services, including supportive in-home services, community coaching, and sponsored residential programs. Our sensory gym is open to the public for exploration and will certainly be a favorite stop on any outing.

FAQ
What if my child wants to stay longer?
We are excited for participants that are enjoing themselves and want to stay longer. Additional time can be purchased at the check in area in 30min increments as long as the Barnyard has capacity to accomodate the request. Please understand that priority must be given to those already booked, but we will make every effort to accomodate time extension requests.
What amenities are available at the Barnyard?
The Barnyard is ready for your herd! We have full restroom and changing facilities, a dedicated water trough for hydration, and sanitizing stations throughout the gym to keep playtime safe and sparkly.
What are the benefits of a package?
Packages offer discounted bulk rates with a 180 day expiration. All sessions must be used within 180 days of purchase. Please note that sessions cannot be scheduled out past the expiration date.
Can I bring additional guests?
Possibly... due to space limitations - we have strict guidelines on capacity. While we strive to accomodate everyone, if you need to add additional participants to your booking and are not showing availability online, please give us a call to see if we have reserve capacity to help meet your request.
Why do I need to sign a liability waiver?
- Understanding Risk: The Barnyard activities involves physical exertion and the use of various equipment equipment. The waiver ensures you are aware of these inherent risks before you begin.
- Personal Responsibility: By signing, you agree to take responsibility for your own physical limits and to use the equipment as intended.
- Insurance & Safety: Our insurance providers require signed waivers to ensure we can keep our doors open and provide a professional, well-maintained environment for all visitors.
Are special Socks required?
Yes, All Sensory Gym Participants must wear clean gripper socks while in the play areas. If you need a pair, they are available at the check-in Desk for purchase. You are allowed to bring your own as long as they are fresh and clean and properly fitted.
Exceptions are made for those requiring orthotics - contact us for more details or informtion if needed.
What is our cancellation policy?
Cancellation Policy-
Individual/Group
Notice Period: A 24-hour or more notice is required for a full refund.
Cancellations within 24 hours of booking start time will result in full session fee not being refundable.
No-Shows: Failure to appear without notice typically results in a full charge
Cancellation Policy- Sensory Gym Closed/Closing
Decision Timing: Staff will make decision in the morning by 9am or the night before a predicted storm to notify families in advance if change in schedule.
Communication: Closures typically announced via social media (Facebook/Instagram), email, and or on the Barnyard Sensory Gym website.
Common Reasons for Cancellation: severe weather, road safety concerns, power outages.
Safety Precaution Early Closure: Even if a facility can open, it may choose to close to prevent families from traveling in dangerous conditions.
Rescheduling: Work with individual/family reschedule another date/time within the month
